IMPORTANT: PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE TAKEN A BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM DATA BEFORE THE UPGRADE. We recommend all users should be logged out of ILB for the duration of the upgrade process.
This release of IRIS Law Business (1.18.0) requires the Microsoft .NET framework 4.0 to be installed on your client PCs, a framework which includes enhancements for our reporting. If you are using Microsoft’s update service this may well already be present; more than one .NET framework can coexist on a PC.
If you need to install .NET 4.0, this can be found on the upgrade CD in the Framework4.0 folder. The file to run is:
dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe
IRIS Law Business from 1.11 onwards is not supported on SQL Server 2000. You must upgrade your SQL Server to 2005 or 2008 before installing or upgrading ILB.
If you are moving to 1.18.0 from a version prior to 1.11 this release will also require a full client PC re-install of IRIS Law Business. We recommend that you install this release on each client PC, then when you are ready for the upgrade uninstall your existing IRIS Law Business client from each PC, and then upgrade your server.
This release updates Crystal Reports to use version 2011. The following file must be run on each client PC following the upgrade and can be found In the Crystal Reports 2011 folder of the upgrade CD:
CRRuntime_32bit_13_0_1.msi
Note: ILB is currently compiled as a 32bit application: even if you are using a 64bit Operating System, you should use the 32bit Crystal runtime at present.
The Outlook add-in to allow email filing installs cleanly on Windows 7 machines.
On Windows XP machines where Office 2007 has been installed before the .NET framework, you must run the Microsoft KB908002 MSI files supplied on the CD prior to installing the Outlook add-in: otherwise you will encounter an error message “Error 1001: Unable to get installer types”. This is a known issue for Microsoft and is not related to IRIS’ software.
In line with Microsoft's own recommendation, IRIS does not support the use of 64bit Office 2010 with IRIS Law Business, even on a 64bit operating system. Microsoft's wording is as follows: "If users in your organization depend on existing extensions to Office, such as ActiveX controls, third-party add-ins, in-house solutions built on previous versions of Office, or 32-bit versions of programs that interface directly with Office, we recommend that you install 32-bit Office 2010 (the default installation) on computers that are running both 32-bit and 64-bit supported Windows operating systems. Subject to this caveat, IRIS Law Business from this release supports customers running Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 and 2010.
Customers wishing to use the Self-Assessment Trust and Estate forms and IHT 400+ can now do so through IRIS Law Business without encountering errors.
