Service Search details

The five search options on Service Search are described below:

Search by Name

Use this search option to search for a service by name. You can use Browse by Industry to select an industry before searching by name.

If you want to search all industries, ensure that, on Browse by Industry, Industries is selected, at the top of the tree structure.

Field

How to use this field

Service Name

Use to search on the service's name. Type the name or part of the name.

To list all services in the selected industry, use just the wildcard character, %.

To search on part of the name, type % in place of unspecified letters. %water would find, for example, Anglian Water, Waters & Co., and so on.

With a list of records displayed, you can type in the Service Name box to narrow down the list to those records that match what you are typing.

Browse by Industry

Use this search option to browse the list of services in a category. You can use Browse by Industry to narrow down the list of possibilities before using one of the searches.

To browse by industry:

  1. In the Browse by Industry tree structure, click + to expand the category you are interested in, or double-click the category heading.

Search by Supplementary Details

Use this search option to search for a service by supplementary details. Note that this search only searches on services, not on service contacts. You can use Browse by Industry to select an industry before searching by supplementary details.

If you want to search all industries, ensure that, on Browse by Industry, you select Industries at the top of the tree structure.

Category

Select the category of supplementary details you want to search by.

Field

Select the supplementary details field you want to search by.

Comparison

Define whether you want to search for services with values that are equal to, greater than, less than, and so on. The comparison options available depend on the Field you have selected.

Value

Define the value for the comparison.

Match Any or Match All

Select one of these, to indicate whether you want to search for services that:

  • match any of your search definitions, or

  • match all of your search definitions.

Using the supplementary details search

You can search for services that have a certain combination of supplementary details. The search criteria you define are listed at the bottom of the Search Criteria pane, ready for you to search for services that match any or all of the criteria. You could use this type of search to define a mailing list.

To search by supplementary details:

  1. Select a Category of supplementary details and the Field in that category that you want to search by.

  2. Use the Comparison and Value fields to define whether you want to search for services with values that are equal to, greater than, less than... the value you've entered. The comparison options available depend on the field you have selected.

  3. Click Add to add your search criteria definition to the list at the bottom of the Search Criteria pane.

  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to create other search criteria definitions, until they are all listed. If you need to change your search criteria definitions, click Clear All and begin defining them again.

  5. Select either Match Any or Match All to indicate whether you want to search for services that match all of your search criteria definitions or whether you want to search for services that match any one of your search criteria definitions.

  6. Click Refresh to perform the search.

Search by Group

If you have the Marketing module and have defined Contact Groups, you can search by contact group.

To search by Group:

  1. In the tree structure shown in the Groups pane, select the contact group you want to search for.

  2. Click Refresh to perform the search.

Search by Role

Use this search option to search on contacts, with a certain role, connected to a service.

Example of using Search by Role

You could use Search by Role to find out, for a given category of expert, which matters an individual expert has been used for.

To find out which matters an expert has been used for:

  1. Complete the fields as described below to search by the role you are interested in.

  2. In the Service Contacts results list, double-click a contact.

  3. On Service Contact Details - Linked Matters tab,  view the matters linked to this expert.

  4. If you want to find out more about a matter, double-click it to open Matter Details.

Field

Role

Select the role you want to search for.

Work Type

If you want to specify a work type, click to select one.

Department

If you want to specify a department, click to select one.

Filter

After clicking Refresh to get your search results, if you want to narrow them down further you can enter an additional criterion in Filter.

For example, to return only the contacts in London, type London in Filter and click Refresh.

Search by Mailshot Criteria

Field

Select the mailshot criteria field you want to search by.

Operator

Define whether you want to search for services with values that are equal to, greater than, less than, and so on. The comparison options available depend on the Field you have selected.

Value

Define the value for the comparison.

Using the mailshot criteria search

You can search for services that have a certain combination of mailshot criteria. You could use this type of search to define a mailing list for marketing purposes.

To search by mailshot criteria:

  1. Select the Field that you want to search by.

  2. Use the Operator and Value fields to define whether you want to search for services with values that are equal to, greater than, less than... the value you've entered. The options available depend on the field you have selected.

  3. Click Add to add your search definition to the list. If you only want to search on this criterion, go to step 7.

  4. If you want the search results to meet the search criterion you have just defined and another criterion you are about to define, click AND. If you want the search results to meet the search criterion you have just defined or another criterion you are about to define, click OR.

  5. Define a further criterion and click Add.

  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as necessary to define all criteria.

  7. Click Refresh to perform the search.
