Documents
Any file type that can added to the history can be shared and downloaded. The downloaded document will use the description field's content for the file name.
Important
The documents will only be displayed if they have been marked as Make
Public in the matter's document history. Documents can also be restricted
to certain contacts.
To make a document visible in Legal Live:
- Import or edit a document and mark it as Make Public in the Edit Document dialog box.
- A pop-up displays with a list of clients and contacts assigned to the matter.
- The primary client and any clients are selected by default.
- Deselect and select the clients and contacts as required and click Share.
- An email is created with the selected clients and contacts in the Bcc field. The email has standard text advising the clients and contacts that a document has been made available on Legal Live.
Notes
- If you have selected clients or contacts that do not have Legal Live access, they are not included on the email.
- When sharing a document with a service, the service email will receive the notification but all service contacts will be able view the document.
- If you need to be more restrictive with who can view the document at the service, the relevant service contact needs to be assigned to the matter or module so the document can be shared with them. They will receive the email notification and only they will be able to view the document.
- When a contact is assigned to the matter and a module added to that matter, the matter role will take precedence and be shown in the pop up irrespective of whether you are working in the matter or the module.
- If the document is a PDF, then it will open in Acrobat Reader.
- If the document is a Word document, then the file appears in the bottom left-hand corner with options to Open (opens in Microsoft Word so you can make use of its editing and formatting options) or Show in folder (opens an Explorer window and displays the .docx file in its folder).
Caution
Any amendments made to the documents are not saved back to the document
held in ALB's document
history for the matter.
