Use this procedure to easily identify whether entries returned by a contact search or a conflict check are clients, prospects, suppliers, or contacts. Unlike searching in the Client List, Prospect List, etc., which only find entries based on the screen you are viewing, searching in the Contact List is not context-sensitive. It returns all contact types — clients, prospects, and suppliers — making it less obvious which entries are which. The same is true of the results of a conflict check search. Therefore, to distinguish the results a single character identifier is used.
To identify contact codes (Contact List):
In the Contact List, perform a search.
In the browse window, look in the left-most column and notice the identifiers. These are:
(C) for client;
(P) for prospect;
(S) for supplier, and
(blank) for contacts.
To add further clarification:
For clients, the client code is shown in the Code field.
For prospects, the prospect code is shown in the Code field.
For suppliers, the contact code is shown in the Code field and the supplier code is displayed in the Status column, e.g. Supplier (22). In addition, where a client, prospect, or contact is also a supplier, the supplier code is displayed in the Status column, e.g. Client, Supplier (22).
To identify contact codes (Conflict Check):
In the Conflict Check, perform a search.
In the Search Results browse window, look in the left-most column and notice the identifiers. These are:
(C) for client;
(P) for prospect;
(S) for supplier, and
(blank) for contacts.
On the Related Parties tab, also notice the identifiers in the left-most column. This means you can see if a related party (of the selected search result) is a client, prospect, supplier, or contact as well, using the same coding system.
For further clarification of the information presented there are ToolTips on the Related Parties and Related/Owned Matters tabs. These appear when you hover your mouse pointer over the results on either tab. The ToolTips read:
"These are the related parties attached to the currently selected search result"
"These are the related/owned matters attached to the currently selected search result"
Notes
To save screen space, the identifier column does not have a column header, i.e. title.
When conflict checking, if a supplier is also a client or vice versa, then "C" is displayed.
