Using document commands

When a variable is inserted into a merge template it can be customised to change the way it works. Variables can be customised so they request information from users, adopt a specific format or operate depending on certain conditions.

This customisation involves adding instructions to variables to tell them how to respond or how to look. These instructions are known as document commands. There are 3 types of commands - Variable Requests, Variable Formats and Variable Tests.

In addition, if you want to use tables to display your data you can also format them, using Table Commands. However, table formatting can only be used with 'draft.disbursements' and 'draft.matters' variables.
